Guidelines

What we're looking for

Short, friendly, and to the point. Read these once and you'll know exactly whether your story fits.

01What we publish

Science fantasy short fiction — science fiction intermingled with magic (think Star Wars and the Force) — for Beyond SciFan.

02Lengths

Flash: up to 1,500 words. Short stories: 1,500–7,500 words.

03Original work only

Original, unpublished work only. Please don't send reprints, excerpts, or anything already live elsewhere.

04Full rights, edited in-house

Submissions must be original, unpublished work, and you must hold full rights to the story. Every accepted story is edited in-house before publication.

05How stories appear

Stories appear free to read in monthly drops of 2–4 stories. Beyond SciFan is a showcase, not a paying market — contributors receive no payment or revenue share. What they get is visibility and free promotion: an author bio and links to their books published alongside their story. Selected stories are eligible for the annual Best-of anthology.

06Review windows

Submissions are reviewed in capped windows so every story gets real attention. The first window opens with the launch of Beyond SciFan.

One quick note: because windows are capped, we close the form once a window fills. If you catch it closed, you're not too late — just come back when the next window opens.
